Caerlaverock Castle.

Caerlaverock Castle. - Dumfries and Galloway:
Caerlaverock Castle: Located south of Dumfries in the southern part of Scotland, Caerlaverock Castle is located in the Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve area of Solway Firth. Today it is under the care of Historic Scotland, but in medieval times it was owned by the Maxwell family. This castle required more than the usual defences because it was located so close to the English border. The main purpose for its construction in the latter part of the 13th century was to control the South-West entrance to Scotland.
